Post less. Post regularly.

Steady beats bursts. Pick a rhythm you can keep up, then batch and schedule.

Posting ten times one week and then nothing for a month is how most small businesses do social media. You're not alone, but it holds you back. People forget about you in the quiet weeks, and the burst of posts looks like a flurry rather than a business that's always there.

Steady beats bursts. Here's a routine that fits around a busy week.

1. Pick 2–3 days a week you can stick to

Be realistic. Two good posts every week for a year will do far more than daily posting that stops after a fortnight. Pick fixed days, like Tuesday and Thursday, so it becomes a habit for you and your followers.

2. Batch a week's posts in one sitting

Set aside one hour a week. Write all your posts and pick the photos in one go. Ideas that work for almost any business:

  • A recent job, product or happy customer (with their permission)
  • A useful tip from your trade
  • Behind the scenes: your workspace, tools, or a day in your life
  • An answer to a question customers often ask you

3. Schedule them ahead

Use Meta Business Suite to schedule Facebook and Instagram posts for free. Once they're scheduled, they go out on their own while you get on with your work.

Check in once a month

Look at which posts got the most likes, comments and messages, and do more of those. Drop the types that never get a response.

Quick win

This week, write and schedule just two posts. That's the whole habit started.
